About me

I was born in England in 1957, my mother is English and my father came from Trinidad in the West Indies.  I grew up in Kettering, Northamptonshire and went to the Girls High School there before graduating from Warwick University in 1980 and beginning a career in teaching.  Books and writing had always been a passion for me, but with two children to raise and a demanding career in the field of education my love of literature was mainly confined to reading with little time to explore and develop my writing.  Then in 2008, along with my husband, I gave up my teaching career and made a life-changing move to southern India where we now run a guesthouse.

This change of lifestyle has allowed me the time to develop some of the writing projects which I have worked on over the years, but I can only write in the five months when we are not really busy with guests!  I love history and so I also love researching my novels which all have an historical aspect to them but are in different genres.  (\'Heronfield\', my debut novel is set in World War 2; \'The Guardians\', which should be published later this year, is set in the recent past but with roots in Aztec history; and \'Rebekah\', which I am working on now, is a \'time-slip\' novel linking the present day to the period immediately following the English Civil War).

I love almost all genres of writing - the social and historical writings of Dickens, factual history books, historical novels by a variety of authors, books about philosophy or religion, science fact or fiction, horror and some tomance.  Each genre has a place on my bookshelves and has helped to shape my ideas and writing style into something which I hope reflects the richness of human life in an accessible and entertaining way.

I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I have enjoyed writing them!
